Hightower - Richard A.

Source: Crawfordsville Journal, December 5, 1885 (Sat)

Richard A. Hightower died last Fri. night about 9 o'clock at the residence of his father in Smartsburg of consumption, aged 42 years.

For many years Dick was a resident of this city, but failing health induced him to go to Ky, where he lived since 1876.

He had been married, but his wife and children all preceded him to the spirit land.

Two or three months since he returned to his father's home for the purpose, as he said, to die.

He made all the preliminary arrangements for the funeral service.

He selected the hymns he wished sung and the text from which the sermon should be preached, and named Rev. M.M. VanCleave as the minister to conduct the services.

The hymns were "Asleep in Jes," "O, Sing to Me of Heaven," and "Sweet Land of Rest."

The text selected was 1st Corinthians, xv, 16, 17.

The funeral took place on Sun. and interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery
